Arizona Primetime Invitational Basketball Tournament Preview

Story by Dalanie Todd

The Arizona Premier Boys’ Varsity Basketball Tournament is happening this weekend June 9 from 3-8 p.m. and 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Brophy College Prep in Phoenix.

In its 12th year, the PrimeTime invitational is the premier boys varsity basketball tournament featuring Arizona schools only.

The schools involved in the tournament are: Basha, Brophy Prep, Catalina Foothills, Desert Mountain, Millennium, Notre Dame Prep, Peoria, Perry, Prescott, St. Mary’s, Sunnyslope, and Valley Chrisitian.

“For the first time, the tournament has invited 12 schools,” Marc Beasley said. “That’s an increase from 8 because of the wealth of talented schools in the state.”

The tournament is partnered with the Arizona Officiating Camp, resulting in 19 college officials working the game.

Tipoff will begin at 3 p.m. with the first game being Desert Mountain versus Prescott in the main gym. And Notre Dame Prep versus Valley Christian in the auxiliary gym.

Other opening games on Friday include Millenium versus Notre Dame Prep at 5 p.m. And Brophy versus Perry at 8 p.m.

Perry will be an exciting team to watch as they ended the ‘22-’23 season with an impressive 30-1 record. Basha also ended their season with a good record of 25-5.

Perry’s team is filled with many talented players, but one person to look out for is 6’8 junior Koa Peat. Peat has many offers including Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Houston, North Carolina, Kentucky and more.

With the increase in the number of schools participating in the tournament, this is a great opportunity for people to come by and see even more great talent than expected.
