Charles Barkley Talks NBA Coaching Carousel, Outlook For Suns

There a bunch of news in the NBA ahead of the conference finals.

The Phoenix Suns aren’t in the Western Conference Finals after falling to the Denver Nuggets in the second round. Monty Williams has since been fired, along with Doc Rivers (76ers) and Mike Budenholzer (Bucks). Those three coaches have the best three records in the league since 2021.

Charles Barkley believes the Suns are the most intriguing job opening in the association. Los Angeles Clippers’ head coach Tyronn Lue is a popular name for Phoenix right now, but Barkley isn’t sure it can happen.

“The Tyronn Lue situation is interesting,” Barkley told Brad Cesmat. “I’m not sure if he would leave L.A. and come to Phoenix…They’re not just going to give up Tyronn Lue to a rival.”

The Suns don’t have a first round pick to trade straight up until 2029. Compensation on a deal for a coach like Lue could be difficult given the lack of capital this franchise has at the moment.

The main reason for Phoenix’s attractiveness is Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Barkley says he wants to see them win a championship, despite how Durant has felt about Barkley in the media.
