“‘Lopes Up” indeed…

Bryce Drew lost his point guard, Jovan Blackshear Jr. in early January to a knee injury. Blackshear Jr. was the preseason choice for player of the year in the Western Athletic Conference. He played in 97 games during his GCU career. The ‘Lopes went 3-4 after the injury to their star player. When I would watch them play, guard play wasn’t crisp(how could it be?). Fast forward to today and Drew is taking his team to the NCAA Tournament. The guard play has been tremendous. Ray Harrison and Chance McMillian are a lethal combinaiton. The coaching staff stuck with it and now the ‘Lopes will be dancing. Fun story…

From my inbox over night “Bryce Drew to Cal?” Yep, that happens when you win at a smaller program like GCU. Nothing wrong with having your head coach in demand. If Arizona State doesn’t want to fix up its dumpy arena and are dragging their feet on extending Hurley, he should do what’s best for him and his family. Perhaps it’s time for both sides to push reset…

Big move by the Diamondbacks to lock up Corbin Carroll for 8 seasons. That’s the type of deal you do when you’re committed to the long haul. Very impressive. Now, if they could stop scheduling concerts in early October at the ballpark, I think fans might start to believe that the organization is more concerned with postseason baseball rather than this showing up on ‘upcoming events’ – Pink with Brandi Carlile, Grouplove and Kid Cut Up

Adrian Wilson did the right thing by moving on from the Cardinals and landing in Charlotte. THe Carolina Panthers now have the top pick and Wilson is right in the middle of the action, as VP of pro personal with the organization…
