The NBA has had a good week opposite the Super Bowl. Let’s not kid each other, both leagues are competing for eyeballs and revenue. While nothing will top Sunday’s game in terms of ratings, the buzz coming from the Association is pretty loud this week. Why would the powers that be approve new Suns owner Mat Ishbia and introduce him to the Valley the same week as the biggest event in the sports? Because they aren’t going to back down to the NFL. Why would the NBA have their trade deadline the same week as the Super Bowl? Bcause they aren’t going to roll over and let the NFL dictate the news cycle. I grew up watching and covering Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Being a Southern California kid, I didn’t miss much of his amazing career with the Lakers. When I jumped into media, he was a thoughtful and engaging guest. Yes, there were times he would be bristly, but who cares! Greatness has it’s sides.
