Multiple Sun Devils Enter Transfer Portal

Monday is the first time FBS players can officially enter the transfer portal, and it is expected to be a crazy six weeks in the college football community.

Arizona State has already seen a few players announce their intent to transfer including team captain LaDarius Henderson.

Henderson started at left tackle as a true freshman in the Sun Devils’ Michigan State win in East Lansing in 2019 as a 17 year old and has been a staple on the interior line the next three years.

He was a vocal leader for the team and also led by example on the field in that time.

Henderson was a fast riser on the field, just picking up the sport as a junior in high school. He eventually picked Herm Edwards and the Sun Devils as a class of 2019 three-star recruit.

Henderson missed the second half of the 2022 season with a hand injury.

The Sun Devils could have already been preparing for life without Henderson. He previously committed to the East-West Shrine Bowl, a postseason showcase geared for players preparing for the NFL draft.

New head coach Kenny Dillingham will look to address the offensive line as Henderson if moves on from Tempe and Chris Martinez and Des Holmes exhausting their eligibility.

Running back Dnaiyel Ngata has also reportedly entered his name into the portal. Ngata rushed for 689 yards and six touchdowns over three seasons. The All-American was very efficient in his time on the field, but his role was limited because he shared a backfield with Rachaad White for two seasons and X Valladay this past season.

Ngata’s high school teammate defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott also is in the portal. He tallied 45 tackles with two passes defensed and four sacks in three seasons. Last season, he entered the portal, only to return to ASU. A big reason for that was because of his relationship with former defensive line coach Robert Rodriguez, who is replaced by Vince Amey on Kenny Dillingham’s staff.

Kicker Jace Feely also announced he will enter the transfer portal. The Gilbert Christian alum was in a down-to-the-wire position battle with freshman Carter Brown. Brown won the job and converted 11/14 field goals and all 33 of his extra points this season.

This is just day one and there will be plenty of roster turnover not just with the Sun Devils, but across college football.

Stretch out, folks. It’s going to be interesting.
