Chris Paul’s Mileage, NHL and ASU, Revisiting Archie Bradley Deal

Arizona Sports News online

It’s the miles and the minutes that are being rolled up on Chris Paul now that Devin Booker is out for the foreseeable future. Yes, winning Friday night at New Orleans was big, but so were the 40 minutes that Paul played. The stress and strain of postseason basketball take their toll. Do you recall the angst over Paul last summer in the Finals series against Milwaukee? The questions of an aging 36-year-old body versus much younger Bucks players. Here we are a year later and seven more weeks of playoff basketball in front of us. No way he can average the same number as Friday night and have much left in the tank in mid-June…

.500 ball over the last ten games for the Diamondbacks is fine with me. Just an ounce or two of offense in the first couple of weeks and they’d be sitting with a much different record. Pitching has been good. Offense not so much(understatement). Keep playing the kids!

I’ve harped on how lopsided the Paul Goldschmidt trade has turned out to this point, but how about the Archie Bradley deal in 2020? Cincinnati sent over Josh Van Meter and Stuart Fairchild. The Meter never got started in Arizona(Designated for Assignment) and Fairchild was traded for cash considerations. While that is a bad deal, the Goldy trade is fast becoming one of the top ten worst deals in the history of the franchise. Carson Kelly is hitting .111 with 13 K’s in 36 at-bats. Luke Weaver is back on the DL, and Andrew Young went in the Rule V draft to the Nationals this past offseason…

Always Something University plucks a quarterback from California for the Class of 2023. They take a transfer portal visit from a quarterback who was in Florida. Someday, sometime they will finally understand the value of recruiting a hometown quarterback who can play the position. It’s one of the biggest mysteries in Valley sports…

Former Desert Vista star quarterback Parker Navarro put his name in the portal last week. More than a dozen schools have reached out after he let the University of Central Florida know his intentions of leaving. Yep, ASU isn’t one of them…

Arizona State hockey is going to be the big winner in this Coyotes deal. My understanding is the NHL toured the new Sun Devil facility on Thursday. There will be many upgrades to the facility and surrounding area to meet NHL standards. Once the Coyotes leave, all of the infrastructure upgrades will remain in place.  Hockey will do very well on campus in a five-thousand-seat facility. I would also expect some sort of Arizona State hockey broadcast, either streaming or on the radio to be announced…

The NFL Draft is this Thursday and the Cardinals pick 23rd. Anything else we need to know? Didn’t think so…
