On The Rocks – Boulder Canyon To Viewpoint

Hey everyone, welcome to On The Rocks! I’m your trail guide, Claudia Faust. Every week I’ll take you on a new adventure as I check hikes, waterfalls, and other outdoor activities off of my Arizona bucket list. Let’s hike Boulder Canyon to Viewpoint!

It’s no secret if you’ve been following along that the Tonto National Forest is my favorite place in the state to go on adventures. I think the rock formations, plant life, and wildlife are unmatched. Even though I hike in the Tonto National Forest very frequently, there are still many dozens of hikes I haven’t done yet. This hike was very special because it’s the closest I’ve ever hiked to Weavers Needle. Since it’s beginning to get really hot outside I haven’t been able to commit to the 12.5 mile Weavers Needle loop hike, so I’ll have to save that for a cooler season. This hike was only 5 miles long, the perfect length to make sure you complete the trail before it gets too hot outside!

I was blown away by this trail and it completely exceeded my expectations. I recommend doing this hike early in the morning and bringing a bathing suit to go for a swim after. Just down the road from the trailhead, you can find the Acacia Recreation Site which is the perfect place to go for a dip in the lake after a hike!
