Liberty’s Hot Streak Extends to 6A State Championship Crown

The beginning of the season for Liberty High School didn’t look extremely promising. A 2-3 start included losses to top tier state powerhouses, Sandra Day O’Connor and Mountain Ridge. After getting routed by MRHS 10-3, Liberty changed their hitting approach and saw immediate results, winning a revenge game against Mountain Ridge 14-8. Following that victory, Liberty would never lose again.

The Lions ended the 2021 season on a 19-game win streak, including a 10-0 mercy-rule victory against #4 Alhambra for their third state title in program history. It is the first victory by Run Rule at the AIA’s top division or conference since 2005 when Horizon earned a 10-0 victory against Hamilton.

During their 19-game win streak, Liberty outscored opponents on average 11-3, including an eight-run average margin of victory in their four playoff games. The Championship locks down the program’s third state championship, all in different conferences with a 4A DI title in 2010, 5A championship in 2018, and the 6A crown in 2021.
