Father, Son Travels…

Arizona Sports News online

I’ve been away from the keyboard the last few weeks. Not that I haven’t been working, I’ve just been more into the spoken word doing the TV shows on Bally Sports Arizona.

In March, I took my youngest on a road trip through Texas to look at schools and hang out. He’s a sophomore in high school, and spring break meant that he’s now closer to the end than the beginning of those wonderful years,

His interests in environmental engineering and culinary are strong. He’s in water polo, football, and track. For me to have any time with him when we’re just hanging out is a true blessing. Trust me, it goes fast. He chose Texas because of the food scene, and it’s an area he’s never explored.

We went to SMU, TCU, University of Texas, Texas A&M, and Baylor over the span of four days. We drove through the back roads of Texas and sat in bumper-to-bumper traffic in Waco and Austin. We ate at nice places and munched on Swedish Fish in between. We walked around and through the campuses, explored the athletic facilities and the dorms. At each stop, he bought some gear. I think he’s set on workout clothes for the rest of 2021.

By the time we got to the last night, we had a healthy helping of Texas barbeque takeout and sat around the hotel room. We were beaten up from the pace.

I don’t know if I will ever get that much quality time again with him. His calendar is already stacked up for the next four months, and before you know it, school starts up the third week of July. Poof, it’s gone…
