Chandler’s Eli Sanders Goes In-Depth on Iowa State Commitment

Chandler running back Eli Sanders – one of the top remaining players in the 2021 class – had a big weekend checking out the campuses of Iowa State and Iowa as he was nearing his college decision.

After taking in both campuses and receiving calls from players from both programs, and getting a bit of the celebrity treatment in Ames, Sanders made his verbal commitment to Iowa State.

The 6-foot, 190-pound Sanders was a one-time Boise State commit and received offers from the Cyclones and Hawkeyes midseason. After a season where he rushed for 1,377 yards and 23 touchdowns in 10 games this year, he opted to wait until the February signing day to make anything official. After Boise head coach Bryan Harsin took the Auburn head coaching job, Sanders re-opened his recruitment.

Ultimately it was the family feel that put the Fiesta Bowl champion Cyclones over the top. Sanders is excited to contribute to a backfield that features college football’s leading rusher from last year in Breece Hall. He’ll also join a heavy Arizona contigent in Ames that features former Perry quarterback Brock Purdy and one-time Deer Valley offensive lineman Joey Ramos.

Sanders goes in-depth on his commitment, the recruiting advice Brock Purdy gave him and how Chandler helped him prepare for college football and adversity on this edition of the Recruiting Roundup.
