2020 Vision: Sunrise Mountain’s Bre Ferris

Arizona Sports News online

Many have been hit hard by the news that schools will not return to campus for the remainder of the academic year. It’s a tough and transformative time for all, but especially for the senior class, the class of 2020. Sports360AZ wants to hear from those seniors on how they’re adjusting, what they’re feeling and how this experience can make them stronger moving forward in a segment we call “2020 Vision.”

Sunrise Mountain pom member Bre Ferris has adapted quite well during the pandemic – despite being one of the thousands of seniors who have seen their spring semester evaporate due to COVID-19.

“We FaceTime every so often but I still see my friends because my parents are a little more on the lenient side from the stay at home order,” Ferris said during a Skype interview with Sports360AZ.com. “It’s the same people I hung out before [the pandemic] so they don’t want to keep me away from them.”

Most of her time has been spent at home with her family. She’s taken advantage of home schooling by sleeping in a bit later and balancing her schedule to keep her mind and body right.

Reflecting back, Ferris said it will be tough to replace the memories she’s make with her SMHS pom team.

“I think I’m going to remember the relationships I’ve built with pom,” she said. “I think pom, in the long run, just helped me look at any live situation and helped me look at things differently…life lessons from my team or coach that I’ve learned from them.”

Oh, did we mention she’s had a couple of her more recent TikTok videos go viral – including one which has been viewed over three million times?

“I’ve just been making videos for fun,” she said almost matter-of-factly. “With my friends, dancing videos obviously. I’ve pretty much been upping my TikTok game.”

Throughout her four years at Sunrise Mountain, she’s also been excelling in the classroom and now she’s positioned herself to do something pretty special as she will attend the University of Arizona in the fall.

“I’m the first person out of my family to go to college,” Ferris said. “I wanted to strive for something big so the University of Arizona is always something I’ve been interested in, so I thought that’d be great.”

Ferris plans to study nursing at the UofA.
