Kurt Warner Intrigued To Coach Again

Kurt Warner still has the itch.

No, the Pro Football Hall of Famer and Arizona Cardinals Ring of Honor inductee isn’t planning (at least publicly) of strapping on the shoulder pads — but a coaching headset may be a different story. Warner, who served at Desert Mountain’s offensive coordinator the past three seasons under outgoing head coach David Sedmak, is intrigued with the possibility of returning to the Friday night lights sidelines this fall.

Although Warner said he has no intentions of becoming a head varsity coach anywhere in the Valley, an offensive assistant spot in some capacity could be an option. His son, Elijah, is a freshman at Brophy and, like his dad, also plays quarterback.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do but he’s got a lot of great traits about him,” Warner said to Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat Thursday morning about Elijah. “I’m excited to see if they develop and he has a career playing, as well.”

One of Warner’s other sons, Kade Warner, was a star wide receiver at Desert Mountain who just completed his redshirt freshman season playing at Nebraska under Scott Frost. He walked on to the program under former head coach Mike Riley.

“He did great,” Warner said of Kade’s first season in Lincoln. “They kind of opened up the third [wide receiver] spot for everybody…he earned that spot and started for the rest of the year…I think he earned the right to be on the field and he played well, he blocked well and he made some big catches when they needed him to. It was really a great year for him. I’m so proud of him.”

The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder caught 17 passes in seven games last fall. His role is expected to expand next season.
