Another Sell-Out Crowd Sees Rising FC Draw

Story provided by Phoenix Rising FC

Phoenix Rising FC teammates Billy Forbes and Soloman Asante each notched a goal and an assist in helping the club draw Western Conference Rival Swope Park Rangers, 2-2, in front of 6,310 fans. It was the third consecutive sellout for the club.

Forbes’s first goal of 2018, came in the 66th minute. Asante drove into the penalty area from the right side before sliding a pass across the box to Forbes who was there for the easy tap in to give Phoenix Rising (3-1-2) a 1-0 lead.

Less than five minutes after the goal, goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski added to his collection of highlight-reel saves. In the 70th minute, Swope Park (3-1-2) had a free kick close to the box. The kick was deflected on its way toward the net, but Woszczynski was there to stop it at his near-right post.

But on the ensuing Swope Park corner, Kharlton Belmar found the back of the net to make it 1-1. Then in the 88th minute, Belmar struck again to give his team a 2-1 lead.

With the match seemingly destined for a loss, Asante and Forbes combined again, this time with Forbes providing the assist. Asante hit a rocket from outside of the box, placing his shot beyond the diving goalkeeper and inside the far left post to make it 2-2.

The club returns home next Saturday, April 28, to take on Fresno FC. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m.
