Arizona United SC comes up short to Orlando City

Arizona United Soccer Club saw its three match unbeaten streak at home come to a close on Saturday night at the Peoria Sports Complex, as Orlando City SC benefited from an early own goal and held on for a 1-0 victory.

The lone goal in the match occurred in the 8th minute when a buildup out of the back by Orlando City sprung an early counter attack. The ball was kicked out to the left-wing where Adama Mbengue then whipped a low cross into the box. Arizona United SC defender Bryan Gallego tried to clear the ball, but it took an unfortunate deflection and lofted over goalkeeper Evan Newton and into the back of the net.

Arizona United SC responded to the deficit and would have had the equalizer if not for the play of Orlando City goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo. Arizona United SC forward Brandon Swartzendruber had two quality opportunities in the first half. His blast from the right-wing in the 39th minute was punched out for a corner, and his shot on the edge of the box in the 44th minute was saved.

Arizona United SC will stay home and host Chivas USA Reserves on Saturday, May 24 at the Peoria Sports Complex at 7 p.m. before it hosts OKC Energy FC on May 28 in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at 7:30 p.m.
