Dbacks on Deck Vol. XIII

Arizona Sports News online

We know what the Arizona Diamondbacks look like presently, but it is hard to keep up with the future because they don’t play here locally. However, most Minor League games are televised and can be viewed using the MiLB.TV package, including all Diamondback affiliates. Whether you can follow the teams or not, we will keep you up to date on what you need to know. Every week we take a look at the Diamondback’s farm system and a closer look at the top 20 prospects here in 2013 and their production throughout the season.

*Notes: Ahmed continues to be one of the hottest hitters in the farm system. His average is back above .200 for the first time since the very beginning of the year and all his time on base is seeing is stolen base count skyrocket. 7 of his 12 stolen bases are in the last month.

7. David Holmberg-LHP-Mobile BayBears (AA)

Last week: 1 start (win), 7 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 6 Ks, 0.00 ERA

Season (Mobile): 5 starts (0-3), 31.2 innings, 24 hits, 7 runs (5 earned), 12 walks, 20 Ks, 1.42 ERA

*Notes: Was a weird first start back in Reno for Spruill as he was pulling in the second inning after 6 players reached base in the 1.2 innings. However it wasn’t all his fault as defense behind him did now help. It was his shortest start of the season.

9. Stryker Trahan-C-Missoula Osprey (R)

Season: 13 games, .231 AVG, 12 hits, 7 runs, 3 doubles, 2 home run, 10 RBI, 7 walks, 12 Ks, .322 OBP

*Notes: The Average might not show it but Trahan is off to a very productive start. 10 RBI in 13 games plus 4 of 9 hits are for extra bases. He is also drawing a decent amount of walks as well. He has 4 in the last 4 games.

10. Anthony Meo-RHP-Visalia Rawhide (A+)

Last week: 2 relief appearances, 3 innings, 3 hits, 1 run (earned), 4 walks, 4 Ks.

Last week: .174 AVG, 4 hits, 2 runs, 3 doubles, 1 RBI, 2 walks, 11 Ks

Season (Visalia): 47 games, .173 AVG, 31 hits, 21 runs, 9 doubles, 5 home runs, 24 RBI, 11 walks, 1 stolen base, .223 OBP

Season (South Bend): 7 games, .269 AVG, 38 hits, 25 runs, 6 doubles, 1 RBI, 2 walks, 11 Ks, .321 OBP

*Notes: Perez’s average may be sub par this season but one thing he is not short on is doubles. He has been a double machine and that has carried over with him after being sent down to South Bend. He has 6 doubles in 7 games for the Silver Hawks and has 15 total between South Bend and Visalia combined in 54 games.

12. Jose Munoz-SS-Missoula Osprey (R)

Last 10 games: .143 AVG, 6 hits, 3 runs, 1 home run, 4 RBI, 1 walk, 20 Ks, 3 stolen bases, .163 OBP.

Season: 13 games, .160 AVG, 8 hits, 5 runs, 2 walk, 21 Ks, 3 stolen bases, .192 OBP

*Notes: Munoz has struggles out of the gates for Missoula. The biggest issue has been his high K rate. 21 in 50 at bats is not ideal.

13. Evan Marshall-RHP-Reno Aces (AAA)

Last week: 3 relief appearances, 4 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 6 Ks, 0.00 ERA

Season: 33 relief appearances (2-5), 2 saves, 35.2 innings, 49 hits, 23 runs (19 earned), 20 walks, 36 Ks, 4.79 ERA.

*Notes: Marshall extremely productive last week coming off a couple weeks where he has surrendered some runs. He has cut down the walks drastically only allowing one in his last 6 appearances.

14. Jake Barrett-RHP-Mobile BayBears (AA)

Last week: 1 relief appearance, 1 save, 1.1 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 0 Ks

Season (Mobile): 3 relief appearances (1-0), 2 saves, 3.1 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 0 Ks, 0.00 ERA

Season (Visalia): 28 relief appearances (2-1), 15 saves, 27.1 innings, 21 hits, 7 runs (6 earned), 9 walks, 37 Ks, 1.98 ERA

*Notes: Barrett has only allowed one base runner since being called up to Mobile (3 appearances) and that was a walk. So he has not yet surrendered a hit stepping in as Mobile’s new closer.

15. Evan Marzilli-OF-Visalia Rawhide (A+)

Last 10 games: .300 AVG, 9 hits, 7 runs, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 1 walk, 5 Ks, 4 stolen bases, .364 OBP

16. Jake Lamb-3B-Visalia Rawhide (A+)

Last 10 games: On Disabled List. Hamate injury in hand.

Season: 37 games, .287 AVG, 37 hits, 25 runs, 11 doubles, 8 home runs, 24 RBI, 29 walks, 43 Ks, .415 OBP

*Notes: Was placed on the DL back on June 4th. It is his second trip to the DL this season. When healthy he has been very productive. According to Visalia Rawhide radio voice Donny Baarns, Lamb was originally supposed to be out for the year but could be back near the end of July.

17. Andrew Chafin-LHP-Mobile BayBears (AA)

Last Week: 2 starts (2-0), 11 innings, 9 hits, 2 runs (both earned), 3 walks, 7 Ks, 1.64 ERA

Season (Visalia): 6 starts (3-1), 31 innings, 32 hits, 16 runs (all earned), 14 walks, 32 Ks, 4.65 ERA

*Notes: Chafin’s last start was is shortest since being called up to Mobile (5 innings) but still managed to get the win and still sports a cool 2.70 ERA for the BayBears.

18. Chase Anderson-RHP-Reno Aces (AAA)

Last week: On the Disabled list. Last start was June 10th.

Season: 12 starts (3-7), 66.2 innings, 80 hits, 50 runs, 40 earned, 24 walks, 64 Ks, 5.40 ERA

Season (South Bend): 7 appearances (5 starts), 32.1 innings, 30 hits, 18 runs (14 earned), 10 walks, 25 Ks, 3.90 ERA

*Notes: Winkler is still switching off as a starter and reliever. He has not allowed a run in both of his relief appearances. Both of which have been in a long relief role lasting more than 2 innings.

20. Brandon Drury-3B/1B-South Bend Silver Hawks (A)

Last 10 games: .293 AVG, 12 hits, 2 runs, 5 doubles, 3 RBI, 2 walks, 7 Ks, .326 OBP
