Sun Devils fall to Texas, 6-3, at Women’s College World Series

Dallas Escobedo and the Sun Devils had a rough opening game against Texas at the Women’s College World Series on Thursday, as they fell to the Longhorns, 6-3, at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Escobedo (30-5) pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up six runs (five earned) on six hits. She also walked six and struck out five.

Her counterpart, Blaire Luna (31-5), went six innings and gave up four hits, three runs (all earned), three walks and struck out 10.

The fifth-seeded Sun Devils (50-11) will face Michigan on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Arizona time. The Wolverines lost to top-seed Oklahoma, 7-1, on Thursday night.

Center fielder Alix Johnson went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Third baseman Haley Steele hit her 12th home run of the season – a solo shot – to provide the team’s only other run.

Kim Bruins came in relief of Luna and got her first save of the season. She also contributed at the plate with her fourth home run of the season.
