Highly touted Bay Area basketball recruit commits to Arizona

Arizona Wildcat basketball fans were glued to Twitter on Tuesday morning at 9:30 am Arizona time waiting to hear the news coming down from the McDonald’s All-American media day press conference at the United Center in Chicago. 2013 Forward Aaron Gordon of Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California announced his commitment to Sean Miller and the Arizona Wildcats.

“I hope Tucson is celebrating because I’m going to be a west coast Wildcat,” Gordon said during his press conference as reported by Scout.com.

Gordon who is rated a five star player by Scout.com and the number two ranked player in the nation at his position, chose Arizona over Kentucky, Washington and Oregon.

“I went to Arizona twice and went to Washington twice,” Gordon added. “I’m glad I did all of that. At the end of the day I just kind of felt it’s where I would fit best and kind of felt that it was right in my heart.”

The Wildcats now look to be loaded heading into the 2013-14 season. With a possibly starting five with Gordon, Brandon Ashley and Kaleb Tarczewski in the front court and Nick Johnson and Duquesne point guard transfer T.J. McConnell in the back court. Not to mention Grant Jarrett, Gabe York, Jordin Mayes off the bench.

Gordon is now the third player to commit to the Wildcats for the 2013 class. Another five star and McDonald’s All-American Rondae Hollis-Jefferson from Chester high school in Chester, PA and De La Salle high school shooting guard from Concord, CA Elliot Pitts.
