The Cardinals ink their eighth free agent of the week in what might very well be the most popular sign amongst fans thus far. The team agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth a reported two million dollars with former Arizona Wildcat and San Diego Charger, defensive back Antoine Cason.

Cason made a big name for himself while in Tucson playing with the Wildcats. He was named an All-American and was the Jim Thorpe Award winner for the top defensive back in the nation back in 2007. While in Tucson he started the “Cason Cares” campaign to raise money for cancer which became very popular wristbands in the University of Arizona community. All before being drafted by the San Diego Chargers 27th overall in the 2008 draft.

In his five seasons with the Chargers, Cason tallied 308 total tackles, 12 interceptions, four forced fumbles and started in all but three games over the last three seasons.

Cason is the third secondary player to be signed by the Cardinals so far in the free agency period. They also signed former Indianapolis Colt Jerraud Powers and former New York Giant safety Yeremiah Bell. Those three paired up with Patrick Peterson and Jamelle Fleming makes for a revamped secondary for the Arizona Cardinals in 2013.
