White Mountain football round-up

Football’s story can always be told within the numbers. If you were to take a look at the White Mountain weather forecast for forecasted low temperatures on Friday night and looked at winning tallies on White Mountain scoreboards you might see some similar numbers.

There were 4 of 7 contests on the Pros2Preps’ radar with the victors in the 50 plus point territory, two other winning teams chalked up scores in the 40’s.  The 7 losing teams’ total combined points were just 59.  There was only one game which was not a lopsided contest.

In the St. Johns vs. Round Valley game the Redskins emerged on top of the Elks 21 -7.

The Snowflake Lobos got the ball rolling Thursday night as they bit the Alchesay Falcons 57-7.  Dallin Merrill scampered for 2 touchdowns in the opening quarter and a handful more Lobos put points up including lineman Reggie Peterson who returned a blocked punt 12 yards for 6.

The defending Division IV state champion Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets blew away the Page Sand Devils   57 -7. The Show Low Cougars blanked the Florence Gophers 58-0 as Dallin Crandall ran for 2 touchdowns.  The Winslow Bulldogs topped rival Holbrook Roadrunners 42 -7. The Payson Longhorns cracked the Camp Verde Cowboys 41 – 21.

In 8 man action it was Mogollon over Kearny/Ray 52-8.  The Mustangs stampede was too much for the Bearcats.

This week features some key contests for White Mountain gridiron teams.  Mogollon travels to Mayer in 8 man football. Payson hosts Fountain Hills. In one of the most interesting contests Holbrook travels to Alchesay while Show Low ventures to Round Valley. Winslow hosts Flagstaff and St Johns hosts Window Rock.  The key matchup this week has to be Blue Ridge at Snowflake contest.  It will be the ultimate test for the Lobos on their home turf.
