The Phoenix Suns announced on Thursday that forward Channing Frye will be sidelined indefinitely for medical reasons. Team doctors discovered during a screening echocardiogram conducted during a routine physical that Frye has developed a dilated cardiomyopathy which is an enlarged heart.

“Nothing is more important to us than the health and well-being of our players,” Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby said. “Channing and his family have the full support of our organization. His health is our primary concern and we are committed to helping him in any way he needs.”

Frye, who has led the Suns in three-pointers the last three seasons, will not participate in any basketball related activities and will not be evaluated again until December. He will be followed closely by his team of medical specialists in that time frame.

On Wednesday, Frye (@channing_frye) tweeted, “‘Everything happens for a reason’ is a tough pill to swallow sometimes”.

After the news broke on Thursday he tweeted, “Thanks everyone for your support. I will be ok. It will pass and ill be back we have the best staff in the NBA helping me out.”

All Suns players are to report on October 1st and begin their training camp in San Diego on October 2nd for the 2012-13 season.
