Cardinals sign Floyd, Fleming to contracts

The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has signed first-round selection (13th overall) Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd to a five-year contract and third-round selection (80th overall) Oklahoma cornerback Jamell Fleming to a four-year contract. The Cardinals now have all seven members of their 2012 draft class under contract.

Floyd (6-2, 220) established school records with 271 receptions for 3,686 yards and 37 touchdowns in 43 games (41 starts) at Notre Dame. He also set a school record with 17 career 100-yard receiving performances and had at least one reception in 42 of 43 games played.

As a senior in 2011, Floyd established a single-season record with 100 receptions for 1,147 yards and nine touchdowns. His 1,147 receiving yards ranked as the fourth-best season total in school history. He started 12 games and was named second-team All-America as well as being named a Biletnikoff Award semi-finalist (nation’s top receiver). A St. Paul MN native, Floyd was a four-year starter for the Fighting Irish and scored at least seven touchdowns in all four seasons.

Fleming (5-11, 206) earned All-Big 12 first-team honors as a senior in 2011 after starting 11 games and recording 60 tackles (49 solos), a forced fumble and a fumble recovery that he returned for a touchdown. As a junior, Fleming was named Defensive MVP at the Fiesta Bowl at University of Phoenix Stadium and last season he was the Defensive MVP of the Insight Bowl in the Sooners victory against Iowa.

The Dallas, TX native finished his colligate career by appearing in 51 games (24 starts) with 131 tackles (98 solos), seven interceptions, 24 passes defensed, 12.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He also recorded 32 special teams tackles during his first two seasons at Oklahoma.
