Notre Dame center bucks trend

Jack York bucked the trend.

The nationally ranked center from Scottsdale (Az.) Notre Dame Prep fielded multiple division-one offers and in a day and age where most kids jump on those offers, York planned for his future and made his verbal commitment to Penn after taking his official visit this past weekend.

“I really like the coahes up at Penn,” he says. “There is two former NDP players there, Anthony Greco and Patrick Foley, and they talked about how it is one big family there and how all of the players are really cool and love the coaches. On my visit, it was really evident of that.”

York (6-2 255) also had offers from South Dakota State, Army, Harvard, Yale, Fresno State, NAU, Air Force and Navy.

The All-Arizona center continues about Penn, “The coaches have been there for a long time and that meant something too. Plus, they have the Wharton School of Business and when I got my likely letter from them and Wharton, it was a big deal.”

York says that Harvard and walking-on at Stanford were his next options. “I just liked the overall atmosphere and vibe better at Penn than Harvard,” he notes. “Also, Penn did a great job recruiting me and they are consistently the best program in the Ivy League. I liked the football opportunity more at Penn than Stanford. Penn is not close to home but I think I am going to have the best experience there.”
