Through 14 weeks the starting Quarterback position has belonged to Kevin Kolb. But because of a nagging turf tow and now a concussion paired with John Skelton continuing to win games, the quarterback position is no longer primarily Kolb’s.
“Everyone is entitled to their own opinions,” Kolb said Wednesday. “All I can do is come to work everyday and work and do my best to prove I need to be out there.”
With Kolb at the helm, the Cardinals dropped six of their first seven games. They since have won six of their last seven in which John Skelton has either started or taken a majority of the snaps at quarterback.
“As an entire team we have played real well lately,” said Cardinals Quarterback John Skelton Wednesday. “No matter who is at Quarterback, whether it is me or Kevin, I know that the offense and the team is going to rally around either one of us.”
The recent success has a lot to do with the much improved play of the Cardinals defense but Ken Whisenhunt mentioned that the offense hasn’t been too bad either, especially in the second half.
“Over the last three or four games in the second half we have been pretty good offensively,” explained Whisenhunt Wednesday. “If we can do that for a full game along with the way our defense is playing, we have the chance to be a real good squad.”
Cardinals All-pro Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald is very complimentary of John Skelton in the huddle during the teams’ winning streak.
“In the huddle it is like being in there with a two-time Super Bowl Champion,” said Fitzgerald.
The big question for Whisenhunt at the end of the day, if Kolb can go on Saturday, will he get the start or will Skelton get the nod?
“We’ll see. I don’t have to make that decision now do I?”
The Cardinals face a tough task in Cincinnati against the Bengals at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
