Path is clear for Pac-12 title game for ASU

Following a much-needed bye week, the Arizona State football team is back on the practice fields this week in Tempe preparing for Saturday’s homecoming contest against Colorado.

Even after the Devils (5-2, 3-1) loss 41-27 loss at Oregon on October 15, the path is clear to a Pac-12 title, if they hold serve starting with the Buffaloes (1-7, 0-3) at Sun Devil Stadium on Saturday. Dennis Erickson’s team is locked with USC in the conference, but holds the tie-breaker after defeating the Trojans 43-22 earlier this season.

The reality is ASU will need to work hard not to win the South with remaining road trips to UCLA (3-4, 2-2) and Washington State (3-4, 1-3), as well as home contests against Arizona (2-5, 1-4) and Cal (4-3, 1-3) to finish the season. Las Vegas says the Sun Devils are 31-point favorites this weekend and don’t be surprised if they’re favored in every game throughout the course of the year.

ESPN College GameDay host Lee Corso on ‘Big Guy on Sports’

“You look at the schedule…there’s no question in my mind Arizona State will run the table the rest of the year,” ESPN College GameDay host Lee Corso told Brad Cesmat Tuesday on “Big Guy on Sports.” “They are a good football team.”

They will have a chance to prove that against a Colorado team who’s struggled on both sides of the ball in their first Pac-12 season after leaving the Big 12. Their defense, ranked 117th in points allowed at over 37 a game, was shredded for 527 yards in last weekend’s 45-2 loss to the Ducks.

This is certainly good news for ASU quarterback Brock Osweiler, who has thrown for just under 2000 yards and 15 touchdowns in seven games this season. The junior certainly caught the attention of Corso after completing 29 of 46 for 291 yards and two touchdowns on the national stage in Eugene.

“He threw the ball very well,” Corso explained to explained to Cesmat. “You’ve got to give him a lot of credit.”

He’ll get even more if ASU gets a shot at redemption against Oregon or Stanford in the Pac-12 Championship Game December 2.
